Alton Gas Storage Project

KMKNO and the 11 Chiefs member to our organization, have been vocal in their concerns on the Alton Natural Gas Storage Project.

Through correspondence to the Province and to Alton Natural Gas Storage Limited Partnership, KMKNO, on behalf of the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq Chiefs have brought up concerns including, but not limited to:

  • Potential contamination of surface & groundwater
  • Potential impacts to fish & fish habitat
  • Impacts to wetlands
  • Impacts to flora & fauna
  • Impacts to Crown Land
  • Potential impacts to archeology
  • Impacts to Mi’kmaq resources and traditional/current use activities
  • Impacts to Mi’kmaq Rights and Title
