Benefits Committee

Formed in the spring of 2008 in response to the economic and political challenges inherent between the Mi’kmaq and the offshore oil and gas industry – has since grown to oversee all Benefits related discussions in Nova Scotia.

The Benefits committee shall strive to advance the socio-economic condition of the Mi’kmaq in Nova Scotia in a manner that reflects the best practices with respect to our Aboriginal Rights and Title.

The Benefits committee strives to generate new wealth and employment opportunities for the Mi’kmaq of Nova Scotia through a concerted effort with industry and the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq Chiefs.  To achieve these deliverables the committee will deliver new project benefits agreements between the Assembly and industry.

The Benefits Committee will provide advice and guidance to industry and find ways to ensure that all the targeted benefits within a particular benefits agreement are met and/or exceeded.

The committee will deliver on new initiatives to create new industry capacities for both the Mi’kmaq business community and the Mi’kmaq community at large
