The Assembly members went on a tour of sites around Debert with the Mi’kmawey Debert team at the Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq. Following the tour, a presentation was provided by the Mi’kmawey Debert team about their building plans and fundraising goals.
The Assembly received a presentation on Trenton Woodworks on a potential partnership opportunity for the Mi’kmaw communities. Discussion was had on the Mi’kmaw Forestry Initiative and community housing needs. The Chiefs requested additional details from company representatives to take back to their councils.
KMK provided a presentation on the possible list of 2023 negotiations lands. Chief Annie Bernard-Daisley offered information about one of the presented parcels. The proposed lands to target were approved.
Interim Regional Chief Andrea Paul provided an update from AFN on the Child Welfare settlement and National Chief candidates visiting with the Nova Scotia Chiefs. Discussion was had on coordinating these visits so that all Chiefs in the Atlantic could participate. Chief Paul also provided an update on the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax and how they erected the Mi’kmaw Grand Council flag that will permanently hang in their facility.
