Nova Scotia and Newfoundland Chiefs elect new Assembly of First Nations Regional Chief

September 3, 2020

The Mi’kmaw Chiefs of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland recently completed the final stages in the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Regional Chief process.

A public Call to Candidates closed in February 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Chiefs’ focus on the well-being of their community members during these health challenges, the process to elect a Regional Chief was paused.

Today the Nomination Meeting was held with all the Chiefs of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, or their respective proxies, in attendance.  At the Nomination Meeting four candidates, who were successful in the screening process, provided a presentation to the Chiefs and an election was called where Chief Paul J. Prosper was elected to represent the Chiefs of the region.

The Nova Scotia and Newfoundland Chiefs congratulate Chief Paul J. Prosper in his appointment and look forward to working along side him as their new Regional Chief for the next three-years.
