Assembly Congratulates Catherine Berliner as first Mi’kmaw Deputy Minister

“It is a great honor to congratulate Catherine on her new position. This is a significant milestone for the Mi’kmaq of Nova Scotia, and we look forward to working alongside her in the near future,” said Chief Sidney Peters, Co-Chair of the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs.

Catherine, who is from Acadia First Nation, has had an extensive and dedicated career in government, bringing 31 years of provincial and federal experience to this leadership position.

“Catherine has always wanted to make a difference,” continued Chief Peters.  “She has been steadfast in her career with the government and we know she will continue to lend unique insight to decisions that impact the Mi’kmaq of Nova Scotia”.

The Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs is comprised of all 13 Chiefs in Nova Scotia and is the highest level of collective governance for the Mi’kmaq of Nova Scotia. As one, they work together to oversee any issues that are common to all our communities and move forward in a united way.
