As many Nova Scotians know, the devastating loss of life will not soon be forgotten.
“With so many questions left unanswered, this is truly heartbreaking for everyone in Nova Scotia and Canada,” said Chief Terrance Paul, Co-Chair of the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq Chiefs. “We understand how a tragedy can impact an entire community and we want the people of Portapique, and surrounding areas, to know that we are grieving with you.”
Yesterday’s shootings resonated a shock and sadness throughout the province and the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs want to thank and recognize the efforts of law enforcement and all those involved in protecting people.
“Our police officers work tirelessly – everyday – to protect the lives of all of us. Yesterday’s incident was a clear indication of the sacrifice they, and their families make, to serve and protect,” continued Chief Peters. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and colleagues of Cst. Heidi Stevenson, as well as with the RCMP Officer who is currently recovering in hospital.”
