Assembly Highlights – Sept. 26, 2019

  • Legal representative from Burchells LLP provided legal opinion on the Chiefs’ concerns with the existing Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline agreement.
  • An update was given on RC Energy. The Assembly agreed that they would not be pursing an agreement with RC Energy as a collective.
  • An update was given on the launch on the Enrollment Process. Discussion was had and on the nominees for the Enrollment Committee and for the Advisory Committee for this process.   The Assembly approved both lists of names.
  • The RCMP provided an overview to the Assembly on cannabis laws.
  • Legal representative from Burchells LLP provided legal opinion on cannabis laws. The Assembly asked that KMKNO develop a new community survey on cannabis.  Discussion was also had on health and safety in the communities.
  • The Assembly discussed the board membership for Wskijinu’k Mtmo’taqnuow Agency Ltd. They agreed to the names put forward from the communities.
  • The Assembly reviewed a letter provided from a representative of the Marshall family looking for the communities to set up a scholarship or trust fund in Donald Marshall Junior’s name. Chief Terry will reach out to Junior’s children to further discuss this request.
